a 280z restoration one morning at a time
This downtown brown sent in by my sister-in-law.
My guess is that this 280z is a 1977. Just check this thing out – kinda funky!
Period wheels, turbo mirrors, extra antenna popping outta the windshield, side window and rear windshield louvers, and it’s even got the little door bumper guard between the door handle and the edge of the door!
Additionally, this 280z has got the bumper overrider bar, added fog lights and mesh over the headlights.
Good thing he’s got the Club haha

My buddy Nick sent this over while he as in town. A 911 owner himself, he was still excited to tell me all the aspects he liked about this gold / champagne ’75/’76 Datsun 280z he zpotted in the parking lot.
Check it out – super clean! Krager / Centerline – like rims (probably original from the dealer), OE beefy bumpers, and just smooth and shiny as any perfect example would be. He was really keen to point out the louvers on the rear winshield – love’m.
Actually my 280z originally had the louvers; how can i tell? there’s a wear line on the glass! hmm gotta think about getting those before the summer sun really comes in!

Recently i’ve been driving the truck since the 280Z’s been having smog issues…
While heading to work, I rolled up next to a nicely done 370z on Great America Parkway. Also, low and behold, it’s a BAZ member’s car! (Bay Area Z) (or at least i think so, judging from the sticker…).

i’ve always preferred the classic Z shape over other models, however, the black on black makes this 300zx look just cool. like KITT cool.
My wife spotted this Z on the highway, and asked, “is this a Z?”. Yep! Haha I wonder how she knew… I haven’t asked her but maybe she remembered the shape of the Z31 S130 body style, or maybe she noticed it’s similarity to the S30… Either way, she’s catching on!
Love the stock look of the early 300zx 280zx, black on black, and the hood intake on these things. Now if only they had a better designed interior.. Regardless these things r growing on me.
3/4/14 – Edit – Upon further inspection.. it’s a 280zx! the 300zx didn’t have the squared off rear side window (it just tapered into a triangle). and i still don’t like this body style. [Thanks zach!]

Whoa Ho Ho!
Spotted two S30 chassis Datsun Z cars today! One black 260 came up on my left as my light turned green (able to snap a glimpse). And one silver on iconic Panasports just around the corner from Santa Clara Univ.

Blue 280zx 2+2! Woot woot! Ultra clean with two tone paint. He spotted me first as he was ready with a thumbs up when i rolled up!
Drove with him for a block before he turned off.
